About Arail Ghat

Situated on the banks of the Yamuna River near Prayagraj, Arail Ghat is a scenic riverfront landscape where broad sandy banks, shallow wetlands, reed beds, floodplains, and riparian vegetation come together to support a rich variety of wildlife. Common birds of Arail Ghat

Arail Ghat offers an exceptional blend of riverine, wetland, and woodland birdlife, making it one of the most rewarding birding locations around Prayagraj. The wetlands support species such as Eurasian Moorhens, Gray-headed Swamphens, Bronze-winged Jacanas, Black-winged Stilts, Little Cormorants, Purple Herons, Great Egrets, Black-crowned Night Herons, Indian Pond-Herons, and Pied Kingfishers. The riverbanks and open countryside are equally vibrant, with Asian Green and Blue-tailed Bee-eaters, Indian Rollers, Indian Grey Hornbills, Shikras, Black Kites, and White-throated Kingfishers regularly seen. Songbirds including Ashy Prinias, Red-whiskered and Red-vented Bulbuls, Jungle Babblers, Indian Pied Starlings, Brahminy Starlings, Bank Mynas, and Rufous Treepies add to the diversity, while species such as the Gray Francolin and Bronze-winged Jacana make every birding session both exciting and memorable.

Throughout the walk, participants were encouraged to slow down, observe carefully, and appreciate the many ecological interactions taking place around them.

Beyond birdwatching, the outing served as an opportunity to promote awareness about biodiversity conservation and the importance of protecting urban and riverine ecosystems. Participants exchanged observations, practised identifying birds using field marks and behaviour, and discussed how citizen science contributes to long-term conservation efforts. The relaxed pace of the walk allowed everyone to enjoy the scenic surroundings while building confidence in their birding skills. The event concluded with participants sharing their experiences and expressing enthusiasm for future Ataavi bird walks, reflecting the growing community of birdwatchers committed to appreciating and conserving the natural heritage of the region.
