Bird Walk at Koradi Lake, Nagpur, Maharashtra

About Koradi Lake

Koradi Lake is a prominent freshwater wetland located near Koradi in the Nagpur district of Maharashtra. The reservoir and its surrounding landscape form an important aquatic and semi-natural habitat within the Nagpur region. The lake is bordered by patches of vegetation, open areas and human-dominated landscapes, creating a transition zone where wetland, grassland and terrestrial bird habitats occur close together. The extensive water surface provides suitable habitat for waterbirds, while shallow edges and exposed sections can offer feeding grounds for herons, egrets, waders, lapwings and other shore-associated species.
During periods of favourable water levels, aquatic vegetation and nearby marshy patches can further increase the habitat value of the lake. The surrounding trees and open land support resident birds such as kingfishers, drongos, bulbuls, mynas, parakeets and other common species. Koradi Lake is particularly interesting for birdwatching because of its combination of aquatic and terrestrial habitats. Seasonal changes in water levels, vegetation and weather can influence the composition and abundance of birds using the area. Its proximity to Nagpur also makes it a convenient location for nature enthusiasts, birdwatchers and students interested in observing wetland ecology and documenting the region’s bird diversity.
