Bird Walk at Ekana Wetlands, Lucknow, UP

About Ekana Wetlands

Ekana Wetlands, Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh), lie on the floodplains of the Gomti River and form a mosaic of marshes, grass patches, water channels, and seasonal pools nestled amid the growing urban landscape. This semi-natural wetland acts as a transitional zone between aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems, supporting a wide range of biodiversity, especially migratory and resident waterbirds.
With its tall reeds, shallow waters, and open skies, Ekana serves as a critical feeding and nesting site for herons, ducks, lapwings, and raptors. Beyond its role in avian life, the wetland aids in groundwater recharge, flood mitigation, and climate buffering. As Lucknow’s urban sprawl accelerates, Ekana Wetlands offer vital ecological services and a green refuge for nature to persist within the city’s changing contours.
