Kavdi Paat near Hadapsar Pune, with an impressive 266 species recorded, is one of the region’s richest wetland birding hotspots where the river, mudflats, and surrounding fields attract a wide range of resident and migratory birds. Winter brings flocks of Ruddy Shelduck, Gadwall, Indian Spot billed Duck, and gatherings of waders like Black winged Stilt, Little Ringed Plover, Red wattled Lapwing, Common Sandpiper, and Wood Sandpiper. The wetland also supports Painted Stork, Black headed Ibis, Eurasian Spoonbill, multiple egrets, Indian Pond Heron, Gray Heron, Purple Heron, Little Cormorant, and Great Cormorant. River Terns often patrol the water while Asian Green Bee eater, White throated Kingfisher, Black Kite, House Crow, Large billed Crow, Common Myna, Barn Swallow, Wire tailed Swallow, House Sparrow, and wagtails including Western Yellow Wagtail, White browed Wagtail, and White Wagtail enliven the surrounding open habitats. This blend of waterbirds, raptors, and farmland birds makes Kavdi Paat a vibrant and seasonally dynamic birding destination.
