Bird walk at Lal Bagh, Bengaluru

About Lal Bagh

Lalbagh in Bengaluru is one of India’s most iconic botanical gardens, known for its rich horticultural heritage and serene green landscapes amidst the bustling city. Spread across about 240 acres, it features a diverse collection of native and exotic plants, centuries-old trees, scenic lakes, and well-maintained walking paths. The historic glasshouse, inspired by London’s Crystal Palace, along with rocky outcrops and flowering avenues, makes Lalbagh a hub for nature lovers, photographers, and morning walkers.
The garden is also a paradise for birdwatchers, with regular sightings of species like the White-throated Kingfisher, Purple Sunbird, Coppersmith Barbet, Spotted Dove, Asian Koel, Rose-ringed Parakeet, and Black Kite. The lake attracts waterbirds such as Little Egret, Indian Pond Heron, and Spot-billed Duck, adding to its ecological value. While urban pressures, visitor disturbance, and waste remain concerns, ongoing tree conservation, habitat maintenance, and awareness efforts help protect this precious green space, allowing Lalbagh to continue serving as Bengaluru’s natural heritage landmark.
