Bird Walk at Nevta Lake & Dam, Jaipur, Rajasthan

About Nevta Lake

Located on the outskirts of Jaipur, Nevta Lake and Dam is a serene freshwater wetland that stands out amidst the region’s semi-arid landscape. Surrounded by open grasslands, agricultural fields, and patches of scrub vegetation, the area forms a diverse mosaic of habitats. The lake itself supports aquatic life and seasonal vegetation, while its edges—often marked by exposed mudflats—become ideal feeding grounds for a variety of birds. Native grasses, scattered trees, and low shrubs create shelter for insects, reptiles, and small mammals, making Nevta a dynamic ecosystem that shifts beautifully with changing water levels and seasons.

For birders, Nevta Lake and Dam is a rewarding hotspot, especially during the winter months when migratory birds arrive in impressive numbers. From flocks of ducks and waders along the shoreline to raptors soaring overhead, the diversity keeps every visit engaging and full of surprises. Early mornings bring the lake alive with bird calls and activity, offering perfect conditions for observation and photography. However, like many wetlands near growing cities, Nevta faces threats from pollution, water extraction, encroachment, and disturbance from human activity. Protecting and managing such habitats is crucial to ensure that Nevta continues to thrive as both a biodiversity refuge and a peaceful escape for nature enthusiasts.
