The Ataavi-IISc Birds Club hosted an engaging and inspiring nature art workshop titled “Fantastic Birds and How to Draw Them”, led by talented wildlife artist Sambita Modak. The session saw enthusiastic participation from around 25 attendees, comprising students and bird lovers alike.

The workshop began with an introduction to the basics of bird art, focusing on how to quickly sketch outlines of various bird forms. Participants learned techniques to add detailing and character to their drawings, turning simple shapes into lively avian portraits.
Sambita introduced a powerful journaling approach using the prompts: “I notice, I wonder, it reminds me of”, encouraging participants to observe mindfully and connect personally with nature through their art.
A highlight of the session was the timed drawing exercises—creating bird sketches in 45 seconds, 3 minutes, and 20 minutes—which challenged everyone to adapt their skills across varying time constraints. Participants also explored how to tell visual stories through their sketches, transforming scientific observation into expressive storytelling.
